RIPESS is participating in the VI World Forum on Local Economic Development, which will take place from 1 to 4 April 2025 in Seville, to bring the perspective of the Social Solidarity Economy (SSE), which is key to ecofeminist local economic development with inclusive financial mechanisms that prioritise social justice.

Two years ago, in April 2023, the first UN Resolution A/RES/77/281 ‘The promotion of the social and solidarity economy for sustainable development’ was adopted as an inclusive economic model with ‘social objectives based on solidarity and with people and the planet at the centre’. On 24 November 2024, a new resolution on the Social and Solidarity Economy was adopted, in which the importance of the Social and Solidarity Economy for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth was reiterated.

The FMLED is a stop on the road to the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), establishing working documents and positioning of territorial actors under the umbrella of the SDGs and also aligning with the priorities of the Conference. FfD4 is a unique opportunity to reform financing at all levels, and RIPESS is participating in the process to influence the final declaration and include the SSE and its principles.

The sixth edition of the World Forum on Local Economic Development (6th FMDEL) will be held from 1 to 4 April 2025 in Seville, Spain. Its main objective is to promote the local economic development approach. To this end, it seeks to advance the policy debate and strengthen global partnerships to achieve concrete actions at the local, national and international levels.

The Forum is convened at the international level by the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the UCLG Local Economic and Social Development Committee, the United Regions Organization (ORU-Fogar), and the Global Fund for Cities Development (FMDV). In this new opportunity, it brings to the international debate the triple transition that our territories need in order to advance: digital, social and ecological. From social justice, training for employment and care. And it will be a key milestone in contributing to the 4th United Nations Conference on Financing for Development to be held in June in Seville.

The sixth edition has the national support of the Seville City Council, the Seville Provincial Council, the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. It also has the support of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), the Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF), the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (RIPESS), Public Services International (PSI) and the Global Care Alliance, among other institutions.
