The 4th Regional Forum on Local Economic Development for Latin America and the Caribbean is being held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 26 to 28 August . This forum is preparatory to the World Forum to be held in 2025 in Seville, Spain.


RIPESS LAC actively participated in the previous organisational stages of roundtable 4 entitled ‘Presentation of innovative practices in local economic development’. This session focused on the presentation of innovations and diverse views on local economic development in the region, with national and subnational policies linked to innovation centres, plural economy and good living, social and solidarity economy, and cooperativism. New perspectives on the territory in the current context from the rural and urban spheres that place people at the centre of development and local policies.


The session was moderated by the Director of Cooperatives and Solidarity Economy of the Municipality of Canelones, Flavia Carretto. Guillermo Gonsalves as Director of the Parque Tecnológico del Cerro de Montevideo, the Mayor of the Autonomous Municipal Government of Tiahuanaco and President of the Federation of Municipal Associations of Bolivia, Daniel Frana; Director of the Local Economic Development Agency of Rafaela and Executive Director of ACDICAR and the Technological Centre CENTEC Rafaela, Argentina and Guillermo Alves – Representative of CAF participated together with Cecilia Matonte Silva, Technical Secretary of RIPESS-LAC.


The space for the exchange of practices, conceptualisations and advocacy actions that could be expressed in the session had RIPESS-LAC as a protagonist, who within its proposals could expose how innovative practices of the Popular, Social and Solidarity Economy can contribute to the active participation and representation of all members of the community, especially those in vulnerable situations, in local economic development.
