On October 17, during the Habitat III meeting, the Global fund for the Development of Cities – FMDV and RIPESS signed a partnership agreement.
The Global fund for cities development (FMDV) was created in October 2010 at the initiative of Metropolis, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and 34 founding members (cities and city networks). It is an international political organization which aims to strengthen solidarity and financial capacity by and among local authorities and is complementary to existing mobilization, coordination and advocacy networks.
The area of collaboration is for the promotion of Social and Solidarity Economy and Finance (EFSS), from the global to the sub-national level. In particular, the partnership is to Carry out joint advocacy linked to SSE, the EFSS, sustainable local economic development and financing mechanisms, particularly in the context of the international development agenda but also in regional activities of importance.
The partnership also provides that the organisations will collaborate in advocacy work to promote EFSS within sustainable development and local development. In particular, the organisations will develop joint strategies for the SSE and EFSS integration in local public policies according to the principles and values of EFSS – a practice of fair governance for the definition, the implementation and evaluation of local development policies and programs which are sustainable, resilient, inclusive and with low carbon imprint.
Jean François Habeau, the FMDV Executive director and Raúl Luna Rodriguez, the RIPESS Coordinator signed the agreement.
